EWABA Outlines the Benefits of Waste-Based Biofuels

EWABA, the Waste-based & Advanced Biofuels Association, gives a comprehensive overview of the benefits of waste-based biofuels on its website – www.ewaba.eu.

The many benefits outlined include:

1. Reduction of environmental pollution

Putting used cooking oil to good use as fuel for transport means that it is not sent to landfill or poured down drains to cause blockages. This saves money too, in the maintenance of drainage and water treatment systems.

2. Savings in Greenhouse Gas Emmissions of 90% compared with fossil fuel.

In Europe approximately 1 million tonnes of CO2 is saved from our atmosphere each year through the use of waste-based biofuel on our roads.

3. Job creation

There are c. 20,000 people employed directly and indirectly in the production and distribution of waste-based biofuels in Europe. It’s estimated that this figure is growing at rate of 5% p.a.

4. Waste-based biofuels

Waste-based biofuels do not use up precious farm land, where food crops could be grown. This means that waste-based biofuel does not contribute to increases in food prices nor the use of chemical fertilisers.

Green Biofuels Ireland is proud to be a member of EWABA – as with all members of this group, we are fully International Sustainability & Carbon Certification compliant and audited to prove full traceable, sustainability and climate-friendly credentials of the used cooking oil and tallow that we source.

We are happy to be part of a solution in helping the EU to meet its ambitious decarbonisation targets.
